Gardening expert shares insightful knowledge with Martins Academy learners

Learners from the Martins Academy had the privilege to share a day with Wilana Olivier who is a gardening master and taught them basic skills about gardening.

Martins Academy recently hosted an inspiring gardening workshop as part of its extra-curricular enrichment programme, equipping learners with essential skills for sustainable living.

Led by local gardening expert Wilana Olivier, the workshop focused on container gardening: a simple, water-wise method ideal for growing fresh herbs and vegetables at home.

In a time when food security and environmental awareness are growing concerns, especially in urban areas like Alberton, learning to grow one’s own produce is an invaluable skill.

Wilana guided learners through the process of selecting containers, preparing soil, choosing crops, and caring for plants, making home gardening accessible to all.

By fostering a deeper connection to nature and self-sufficiency, Martins Academy is helping shape a generation that values sustainability and healthy living and is so grateful to wonderful members of the community like Wilana for sharing their expertise.
