WATCH: Community unites to walk for healing and hope in Brackendowns
Brackendowns CPF extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took part in the Walk it Out event and helped make it a heartwarming success.
Brackendowns SAPS was filled with purpose and prayer during the recent Walk it Out initiative, hosted by Brackendowns CPF.
The community walk held on the morning of April 12, aimed to support individuals battling trauma and depression.
Roxy Scholtz, one of the event’s organisers and a member of the CPF, described the walk as a meaningful and successful gathering.
“We had approximately 130 to 150 attendees,” she said. “What resonated with me the most was our community’s ability to unite in prayer.
“Depression is a real challenge many face. To those who couldn’t join us, know that help and support are available. My passion is to shine a light on those navigating dark times.”
The walk started at Brackendowns SAPS and followed a circular route through the neighbourhood: Letaba Street, Neville Road, Marilyn Road, Blyde Street, Kuisaba Street, Assegaai Street, Marilyn Street, Andries Street, and back to Letaba Street – bringing the walkers full circle.

Along the way, participants were encouraged by uplifting music and the warm support of fellow community members.
Thanks to a generous resident who sponsored a speaker and a microphone, music helped set the tone for reflection and worship.
“A young girl sat at the cross reading messages written on rocks, while a special needs girl beamed with joy. That moment really showcased the walk’s impact,” said Scholtz.
According to Scholtz, feedback from the walk was overwhelmingly positive with strong calls for similar events to be hosted more frequently.
“Plans are already underway to make Walk it Out an annual tradition-standing alongside the CPF’s festive drive and future community upliftment and initiatives.”

Additionally, a blanket drive is in the pipeline to support those in need during winter months.
“The walk was a reminder to trust in God and release our burdens,” Scholtz said, citing Proverbs 3:3-6: “Trust in the Lord…and he will make your paths straight.”
