Gauteng education department responds to Eden Park Secondary School financial misrepresentations allegations

Responding to enquiries from the Alberton Record, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson Onwabile Lubhelwana confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has responded to questions posed by the Alberton Record following allegations of financial misrepresentations.

This publication reported on the story of Eden Park Secondary School accused of financial misrepresentations, SGB member resigns following accusations by Daniel Prentjies and the resignation of a School Governing Body (SGB) member.

Speaking to the Alberton Record, Prentjies claimed: “The amounts on that budget were misrepresented with wrongly calculated totals and I pointed this out at the AGM where the budget was presented for adoption by the parents. “I went to the school the following day to pursue the financials of the school and to prove to the principal why the budget values were misrepresented, but the principal denied me my right as a parent in terms of the South African Schools’ Act.” Full story on albertonrecord.co.za

Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson responds:

Responding to enquiries by the Alberton Record, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson Onwabile Lubhelwana said: “GDE is aware of the allegations of mismanagement of funds at Eden Park Secondary School and views such allegations in a very serious light. We can confirm that investigations were launched accordingly. The outcome thereof will determine the action to be taken.”

“The Department is committed to clean governance, transparency, and oversight, and we have no tolerance for any threats that will impact negatively on service delivery and the provision of quality education to all learners in Gauteng,” added Lubhelwana.
