Royal Schools Alberton Primary School Choir impressed audiences and judges at the Ad Libitum Clash of the Choirs competition, winning top awards and earning a special invitation to perform at the prestigious Drakensberg Boys Choir Music in the City 2026 festival in Johannesburg
The Royal Schools Alberton Primary School’s choir has made the school community proud after an outstanding performance at the annual Ad Libitum Clash of the Choirs competition.
Nine schools took part in the choral event, which celebrated music, teamwork and school spirit. Among all the talented choirs, Royal Schools Alberton stood out with powerful performances and excellent stage presence.
The choir walked away with several major awards, including best own piece, best set piece for their performance of Something Inside So Strong by Lira, and the biggest award of the day, best performing choir of the day.
The learners impressed not only with their singing, but also with their confidence and presentation. Dressed in elegant school uniforms and colourful cultural outfits, they proudly represented Royal Schools Alberton on stage.
Special praise was given to choir master Confidence Maluleke for her dedication and leadership in preparing the learners for the competition. Her guidance helped the choir perform with confidence, unity and excellence.
The choir’s success has also opened another exciting opportunity. Royal Schools Alberton has been invited to perform at the prestigious Drakensberg Boys Choir School Music in the City 2026 festival at Mandela Theatre on June 17.
The four-day festival, taking place from June 17 to 20 in Johannesburg, will feature some of South Africa’s top school choirs as well as international guests, including the Minnesota Boychoir from the United States.

Royal Schools Alberton will perform during the Voices of Unity evening alongside several leading school choirs from across the country.
The event celebrates community, heritage and the power of music to bring people together.
Primary school principal Mrs Neill said the school is extremely proud of the learners and their commitment.
“Their passion, discipline and love for music have truly paid off. They represented our school with excellence and continue to make us proud. This is only the beginning of greater things to come,” she said.
The RSA family has congratulated the choir learners and staff on their incredible achievement and wished them well as they prepare to take the stage at one of South Africa’s most respected choral events.
