Alberton High celebrates double national colours star Sethabile Kamwande
From representing South Africa on the international stage to balancing exam periods with national team camps, the talented Sethabile Kamwande continues to inspire fellow learners through her dedication, discipline and determination.
Rising football star Sethabile Kamwande continues to make Alberton proud after being awarded the prestigious white blazer at Alberton High School.
The 17-year-old matric learner was also awarded Football National Colours for the second time in recognition of her achievements on the field while balancing her academic responsibilities.
Kamwande, who has already earned 18 national caps, said receiving the honour felt like a dream come true.
“Ever since I arrived at Alberton High School, I was inspired by seeing the head girl wearing the white blazer, and I told myself: ‘One day, it’s going to be me wearing that white blazer. Today, looking back and seeing the school celebrate and honour my achievements motivates me to work even harder and aim even higher,” she said.
The talented footballer said dedication, discipline and faith have played an important role in her journey.
“They say dreams don’t work unless you do. Through dedication, discipline and faith, I’ve learned that hard work truly pays off,” she added.
Kamwande also expressed gratitude to her teachers, principal and tutors for supporting her academically while she attended national team training camps during exam periods.
“Your support, patience and encouragement mean more to me than words can explain. I am truly grateful and proud to be part of The Blues,” she said.
She further thanked fellow learners for their continued encouragement and acknowledged the sacrifices made by her family throughout her football journey.
“Your love and support give me the strength to continue chasing my dreams and becoming the best version of myself,” she said.
Earlier this year, Kamwande was called up to the South African U20 women’s national team for the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
In December 2025, she helped Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies win consecutive titles at the Gauteng Women’s Soccer Tournament and was named player of the match twice.
She also donated the soccer boots she won during the tournament to underprivileged children.
During the same month, Kamwande travelled to Harare, Zimbabwe, with the club for the Girls Integrated Football Tournament, where the team emerged as champions and she was named among the tournament’s top 11 players.
