Water safety and swimming programme at Eden Park swimming pool
Ekurhuleni’s water safety and swimming programme started some 15 months ago to train swimming instructors.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) water safety and swimming programme is seemingly bearing fruit. The programme was held at Eden Park Swimming Pool on March 20 where instructors displayed their skills.
The cohort of 30 instructors underwent a ‘learn to swim programme’ before being declared fit to be swimming instructors and being awarded certificates of completion of the programme.
The newly trained instructors used the Eden Park-based municipal pool to showcase some of the skills they got in the municipal programme.

“The city’s Water Safety and Learn to Swim programme saw a display gala at Eden Park swimming pool, where participants eagerly showed off the skills they had learnt. The EPEP and the Water Safety and Learn to Swim programme started 15 months ago and took in just over 30 instructors, who first went through the Learn to Swim programme to qualify as an instructor,” said CoE in a statement.
“The practical programme of learning to swim took place at the different swimming pools in the city. Today, the young participants eagerly showed off the skills they learnt, showing confidence in the water and proudly held their certificates of participation. Well done,” concluded the statement.
