Karateka show grit at all styles karate challenge
The Cobras Shotokan Karate Club from Alberton recently attended the 15th annual Goju-Ryu All Styles Karate Challenge, held in Pretoria on May 31.
This annual event attracts karate clubs from across Gauteng. Thirteen students from the Cobras club took part and returned with a total of 11 medals.
Head instructors, Senseis Laurent and Nicholas Gaston-Bellegarde, expressed pride in their students’ hard work and dedication, which continues to yield impressive results.
Medalists include:
Sinovuyo Gumede (bronze); sensei Bokamoso Makhene (gold and silver); Keana Truscott (gold and silver); Shayleen Shelver (silver); Lefona Moloi (silver and bronze); Ryan Hovell-Erasmus (bronze); Tyron Dos Santos (gold and bronze); Ryno Nikola (bronze).
The Cobras club trains at Ascot Mews, 19 Heidelberg Avenue, Newmarket, on Monday and Wednesday evenings:
Beginner classes: 17:30 – 18:30
Advanced classes: 18:30 – 19:30
The first two karate classes are free for any student interested in trying it out.
