Alberton Lions induct new president and celebrates community achievements
The Alberton Lions Club recently held its annual induction ceremony, marking a transition in leadership and a renewed commitment to community service.
The Alberton Lions Club recently welcomed its new president for the 2025/26 term at its annual induction ceremony.
This event marked a significant milestone for the club, signifying a change in leadership and a renewed dedication to its mission of serving the local community.
Mukesh Dayah was inducted as president, introducing his theme for the year as ‘Strength in Oneness’. The theme emphasises unity and collaboration, highlighting the power of working together towards a shared vision of community service.
As part of the ceremony, the club reflected on the achievements of the past year and honoured those who made notable contributions.
Special recognition was given to:
• Lion Lady Teresa Maghalhaes and service chair Melinda Strydom received the prestigious MD 410 Louis Volks Award, the highest accolade a Lion in South Africa can receive.
• The Service Project of the Year was awarded to Lion Sandy King, Lion Ana Ferreira, and Lion Lady Teresa Maghalhaes for their efforts in the gift-wrapping fundraising project.
• Club members also voted for Lion Melinda Strydom as Lion of the Year, recpgnising her exceptional commitment and service.
The new board of directors will provide the strategic leadership and vision needed to guide the club through another year of meaningful projects.
The Lions Club International’s core pillars of service – including hunger relief, vision care, childhood cancer, diabetes, environmental efforts, youth engagement, humanitarian work, and disaster relief – will continue to shape the club’s initiatives.
