WATCH: Alberton Squash Club celebrates 50 years with tribute to the past and future
Olympic return spurs club drive for new players and sponsors.
The Alberton Squash Club marked a major milestone on May 30, hosting its 50th anniversary celebration at the club in Alberton.
The event brought together generations of members to reflect on five decades of competition, community and growth.

The club honoured former members who helped build Alberton Squash over the years, recognising their contributions to facilities, coaching, and club culture.
It also welcomed a growing influx of young players who are now filling the courts.
The occasion also served as a handover, with new chairman Armand Moolman taking over from Leroux Cegars, the previous chairman.

Both were in attendance and were honoured during the celebrations.
Moolman said the club was entering an exciting new chapter.
“Fifty years is a huge achievement for any club, and it’s built on the work of people like Leroux and all the members before us,” Moolman said. “With squash back on the Olympic stage, there’s real momentum now. Our goal is to keep that legacy alive while opening the doors wider for new players.”

With squash reinstated as an Olympic sport, the club is encouraging new members to join and experience the sport firsthand.
The club also welcomes sponsorships to support development programmes, coaching and facility upgrades for hopefully, the next 50 years.
