Aladdin set to dazzle audiences

Peoples Theatre is delighted that the musical staging and choreography will be executed by the multi award-winning Sandy Dyer

THE Aladdin magic carpet ride is gearing up to entertain audiences at the Peoples Theatre from March 7. The fairytale favourite is ready to dazzle both young and old. Along the way you will meet the not so clever but very diligent Genie, who helps our hero overcome the villainous Jafar, and ultimately win the heart and the hand of Princess Jasmine. A visual delight, Aladdin’s adventures take place against the backdrop of an opulent and exciting set by Grant Knottenbelt.

A series of beautiful backdrops and various rostrums depict the enchanting Palace, the dark eerie Dragon’s Cave and the chaotic Market Place. Special lighting effects are used for Aladdin’s flight on his magic carpet and spectacular journey to light the night sky. Extravagant costumes by Linda Wilson capture the Arabian culture in all its splendour. Jafar is brought to life by star of many great children’s productions, Sean McGrath. The fabulous Andile Maqxaki (last seen in ‘Shrek and The Little Mermaid’) takes on the role of the Sulton and the Genie, and a Peoples Theatre favourite Noni Mkhonto plays the hilarious, wise-cracking Parrot. Newcomer Sibusiso Nhlapo plays the menacing Guard Razoul. The role of the beautiful Jasmine will be played by Sarah Malherbe and Aiden Hyland is seen as the captivating boyish and truly heroic Aladdin.

Peoples Theatre is delighted that the musical staging and choreography will be executed by the multi award-winning Sandy Dyer, together with masterful music direction from Raymond Verster. The enormous passion of co-directors and producers Keith Smith and Jill Girard is obvious in the skilful staging and direction of the show; with props, lighting and sound fine-tuned to deliver an outstanding result. A sharp-witted and exciting production that teaches of bravery and strength of character, Aladdin is a must-see family fun fantasy.

Show times for schools are Mondays to Fridays at 09:00 and 11:00. Saturday shows and shows on certain Sundays and public holidays start at 10:30 and 14:30
