Griekwastad now on Box Office

This film recounts the historic Griekwastad murders.

The cruel acts which shook the world to its core in 2012 are immortalised on the silver screen through the film Griekwastad, which is available on Box Office.

Viewers can now watch the film, produced by SCENE23 and based on the book The Griekwastad Murders: The Crime that Shook South Africa by Jacques Steenkamp, from the comfort of their own home.

World-renowned South African actor Arnold Vosloo plays the leading role of Col Dick de Waal. SAFTA winners Tertius Kapp and Jozua Malherbe are responsible for the script and directing respectably.

More about the film

On April 6 in 2012, Deon Steenkamp (44), his wife Christel (43) and their teenage daughter were murdered in the living room of their home on their farm Naauwhoek in the Northern Cape.

Their 15-year-old son had stormed into the Griekwastad Police Station just after dusk; his face, hands and shirt covered in blood. He told police his family had been the victims of a farm murder, claiming he had hidden in the barn and returned to the house once the shooting stopped. His sister died in his arms.

But photographs of the scratch marks on his neck and his bloody and his torn shirt served as evidence of his violent struggle with his sister.

Police detective Dick de Waal must relinquish his belief in the innocence of youth to solve a triple homicide.
Griekwastad tells the tale of the search to find the truth about what happened that night. The film is produced by SCENE23, consisting of Deon Meyer, Tim Theron, Cobus van den Berg and Tracey Lange.

The cast includes the likes of Arnold Vosloo, Alex van Dyk, Jane de Wet, Albert Pretorius, Albert Maritz, Deon Lotz, Ira Blanckenberg, Rolanda Marais, Tim Theron, Jody Abrahams and many more.
