Our roads are riddled with damage, pavements are broken and unsafe, traffic lights and road markings are missing or non-functional, grass is left to grow unchecked, and litter lines our streets. These are not isolated problems or recent developments.

This level of deterioration has been building for years, and it has now reached an unacceptable and dangerous state.

What makes this situation even more infuriating is that residents are increasingly forced to step in where the municipality has failed. Ordinary citizens are cutting grass, cleaning sidewalks, and attempting to make public areas safer – work that should never fall on the shoulders of ratepayers. We pay our rates, taxes, and levies consistently, yet Alberton continues to decay.

Residents are right to ask: where is our money going, and why are we seeing no return in basic service delivery?

If the mayor or senior officials do not reside in Alberton, then they are insulated from the daily reality faced by residents.
