Amakhosi and Masandawana to lock horns in the 2nd edition of the Shell Helix Ultra Cup

JOBURG -– Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to provide scintillating football when they clash in the 2nd edition of the Shell Helix Ultra Cup.

The Shell Helix Ultra Cup will see two of South Africa’s top teams Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns go head-to-head for bragging rights on 12 October at the iconic FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.

“Shell is thrilled to bring a fresh and exciting event to South African soccer fans. Just as Shell understands South Africans’ passion for driving, they also understand their passion for great soccer.

“Soccer is the most popular game in the country and is a sport that has become a unifier in South Africa. Shell believes that in rivalry, there is solidarity, even though there will be only one winner but through sports we are one,” said Shell Downstream South Africa general manager for lubricants, Anton Niemann during the launch of the second edition of the cup in Bryanston.

The company has joined forces with event rights holders Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) to bring the new prestigious fixture to the annual soccer calendar of the country.

“We are excited to be part of this tournament for a second year. We want to ensure the fans have the best experience possible and will be launching some exciting surprises for fans. We are proud to bring this world-class tournament to soccer fans across South Africa,” Niemann added.

“The Shell Helix Ultra Cup is a showcase of one of the best rivalries that South African football has to offer – the never-ending battle between Amakhosi and Masandawana,” said Jacques Grobbelaar, SMSA tournament chairperson.

The first edition of the cup was won by Masandwana but with the new signings at Amakhosi coupled with the motivation of being the team at the summit of the Absa Premiership, fans can look forward to a spectacle of a game that swings in Chiefs’ favour this time around.

Ticket sales have officially opened, and fans are urged to purchase their tickets through Computicket to avoid disappointment.
