Thusong Youth Centre empowers young minds

Thusong Youth Centre recently donated school shirts to Pholosho Junior Secondary School in Alexandra.

Thusong Youth Centre, a non-profit organisation based in Alexandra, dedicated to empowering young minds and promoting positive change, donated 51 shirts to the Pholosho Secondary School, which the centre hopes will smooth the educational development of the learners.

Thusong Youth Centre’s programmes manager Chris Ndlovu said, “We are running a homework programme at Thusong, and we have children from Pholosho. We saw their school uniform and had the shirt coloured to match it. We thought it would be a good thing to give them to the learners and provide support.”

He added that their visit to Pholosho was not only about giving them shirts but also about raising awareness on the issue of bullying.

“Bullying is a pervasive problem that affects many students in our communities. We believe that every child deserves to feel safe and respected at school. That’s why we visited Pholosho to educate learners and teachers about the effects of bullying and how to prevent it,” he said.

Ndlovu said their donation is not a once-off thing – they will also visit other schools in the township.

“Pholosho was not our last stop, the aim is to make this donation our school outreach programme. If we get school uniforms surely we will visit other schools because we want to provide support to the schools in the township. Our aim is not about motivating one school but to address the challenges in all schools as we have learners from different schools in our centre.”

Ndlovu said, “We are currently seeking sponsors who can provide us with school uniforms, which will enable us to visit other schools and share our message with even more young people. With your support, we can make a real difference in the lives of thousands of students affected by bullying and lack of resources.”
