Magolego had been scheduled for sentencing on April 30 in the same court but this had to be postponed following an application from his attorney to be granted the right to engage the services of a social worker in mitigation of sentence.
The court granted the application but ordered that this apply to the Khumalo and the Masebe families in aggravation of sentence for the accused. The late Thando was Sipho Masebe’s adopted son as instructed by Masebe’s late sister just before she died.
The magistrate ordered that two social workers be appointed, one for Magolego and the other for the two families of the late Thando.

In his confession in court, Magolego said he accepted full responsibility for the murder of the schoolboy and ‘I don’t want to waste the court’s time as I feel remorseful for what I did’.
This case has dragged on for three years as the South Gauteng High Court had to decide whether it could be heard in its jurisdiction or referred back to the Alexandra Regional Court for trial.
The South Gauteng High Court finally ruled that the case be heard in the Alex Regional Court and the case was put back on the roll. Magolego was back in court on April 16 and he pleaded guilty to murder after being charged.
