A Human Being Died That Night

Based on the gripping story in her award-winning book, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela explores the complex issues of violence, trauma, memory, forgiveness and remorse. During her work for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, psychologist Gobodo-Madikizela meets the man who came to be known as ‘Prime Evil’ (Eugene de Kock, the commanding officer of state-sanctioned apartheid death squads, sentenced to 212 years in prison) and tries to understand how a seemingly ordinary man becomes a monster.
