Support Nelson Mandela sports day

South Africans are set to unite in sports and song for the spirit of Nelson Mandela.

The Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day will be held at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 17 August.

The country’s biggest sporting codes, football and rugby, will stage two big internationals on one day in the same arena.

Bafana Bafana will take on Burkina Faso and the Springboks will play Argentina, while the South African masters football side take on Italy.

A music concert featuring a number of top local and international artists will follow the sport.

Minister of Sport and Recreation, Fikile Mbalula said the day was a celebration of the contribution Nelson Mandela has made through sport, especially during his term as president of the country.

“It is in the spirit of this that all proceeds from the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day will be in aid of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital project.”
Ticket prices start at R220 and are available at Computicket.
