Councillor donates to family in need
ALEXANDRA - Councillor Shadrack Mkhonto donates planks, iron sheets and nails to the Mothibas.

Councillor Shadrack Mkhonto was so touched when he found out about the Mothiba family’s tragedy, he decided to take action.
The family lost their nine-year-old child in a fire that burnt down their house in Alexandra.
With the help of Phuthaditshaba and others, Mkhonto donated building materials to the family for the re-building of their house. “When something like this happens we have to step in and help, no matter who it is,” said Mkhonto.
Mkhonto is passionate about helping people in need and said someone in his position does not sleep as there was always someone who needs a helping hand. Jackie Mothiba, the deceased’s uncle said Mkhonto was someone they looked up to and they were happy that he could help them. “When we see him (Mkhonto) we feel better because we know that he is here to help, he really makes us feel better,” Mothiba said.
Mkhonto’s donation will help the family to have a roof in time for the funeral.
Housing department officials said they would find a room for the family while they re-built their house. Spokesperson of the housing department, Pennuel Lekoloane said he was not aware of the arrangement as to where the family would be living during the construction. “We are still waiting for approval from the insurance,” Lekoloane said.
