Road closures for Soweto derby

JOBURG – Several roads will be closed on 24 August due to the epic MTN8 semi-final first-leg match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.

Affected roads are within and around the stadium precinct.

These are Soweto Highway and Mentz Street, Soweto Highway and N1 South, Nasrec Road and Shaft Road 17, Shaft 17 Road and Soccer City Avenue, N17 and Nasrec Road, Ring Road and Gate 1 and 2, Golden Highway and Ring 1 (Nasrec Gate3/4), Nasrec Road and Recreation/Sport Road, Crownswood Road and Booysens Reserve Road, Crownwood Road and Amethyst Road, Nasrec Road and Stadium Avenue, Landbou Road and Ring Road as well as Booysens Reserve Road and League Avenue.

The Premier Soccer League has advised that gates at the stadium will open at 11am. Top6 taxis, Rea Vaya, Gautrain Shuttle and Metrorail will be transporting fans to the stadium.

The frequency of the Rea Vaya service will be stepped up from the normal service to five minutes.

Clashes between the two Soweto giants are among the biggest and most watched football derbies in the world. Kick off is 3pm.

The second-leg will be played on 24 September at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
