Football associations are at loggerheads

ALEXANDRA - FOOTBALL associations cannot work with each other since their merger by the South African Football Association.

Alexandra Football Association and Northrand Football Association which merged to form Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association are at loggerheads.

Chairperson of the Alexandra Football Association, Maisha Molepo said since the merger the two associations had not played together. “We still operate like two associations yet we are one,” Maisha said. He said some players belonged to both associations. “A player cannot belong to two associations, but I cannot tell the players which association to join.”

Chairperson of the Northrand Football Association, Jorge Patricio said they were in talks with the Alexandra Football Association to find common ground in which they could work together. Maisha claimed that Northrand Football Association operated more like a business rather than focusing on the development of football. Patricio refuted the allegation. He said, “We are not about money, we are very passionate about the development of football for the players.
