Alex football wants Region E manager out
ALEXANDRA - Football leaders here have called for the resignation of the City of Johannesburg's Region E manager Elsie Mokgoebo.
The Alexandra Football Association has called for the immediate resignation of Region E sports and recreation manager, Elsie Mokgoebo.
Chairman of the association, Maisha Molepo said Mokgoebo had not done anything for them. “She is from Soweto and all other people in management are from Soweto,” he said. “We want someone from Alex who will understand us and provide better services for us.”
“We used to run this stadium properly until about two years ago when they brought Eddy Madau and made him the caretaker. He is also not from Alex and the challenge is that we are being controlled by people who are not from here.”
Molepo said Madau had not been doing a proper job of maintaining the stadium. “People come in and out as they please,” he said. “The stadium has become a drinking place. We don’t see the need for him [Madau] while he does nothing for us,” he said, adding that Madau must also leave.
Mokgoebo said she was not aware that the association wanted her to resign and she would be happy to hear it from them.
Madau said his job was to report to his superiors when things went wrong. “I have escalated the matter and there is going to be a bigger maintenance plan which they [the association] are aware of, ” he said. “I don’t know when exactly it will happen.”
On the call for his resignation, Madau said that would have to be determined by his employer, the City of Johannesburg. “That’s their opinion of me but the City of Johannesburg sees me fit for the job. They must prove my incompetence so that the City can take action. They want to run the stadium and it does not work like that.”
