‘My only birthday wish’

ALEXANDRA - Instead of sumptuous birthday cakes and meals to mark her birthday, Kgololo Academy founder Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha has asked family and friends to make a donation towards books and stationery for the children of her new school.

Tolbert-Mbatha, a co-founder of the world-class school which will open its doors in Alexandra in 2015 said, “My birthday is coming up on the 26 February and the only thing that I want this year is to ensure that we are ready to welcome 50 smiling faces into the doors of Kgololo Academy next year.

“I taught reading for almost eight years and I loved seeing the looks on the faces of my students as books took them to far off places and sparked their imaginations to dream bigger and to aim for more.

“So, I need your support, I’m turning the big 34 this year and I would like for you to pitch in a tax deductible donation of R34, R134 or R234 to help us to ensure that our kindergarten children at Kgololo Academy have access to fully stocked classroom libraries with reading materials that will inspire and empower them,” she said.

Urging her friends and family to chip in, Tolbert-Mbatha said her goal was to raise a sizeable amount of money that will her help the children of Kgololo Academy set their dreams free.
