Woman arrested for fraud

ALEXANDRA - A woman will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court soon on charges of fraud or theft under false pretences.

This follows the arrest of the woman at the Freedom Supermarket in the Pan Africa area of Alexandra. Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said a business owner from Hillbrow had visited Freedom Supermarket to inquire why the shop was no longer ordering certain goods from him.

The shop manager pointed to the woman who happened to be in the shop and said they were now ordering from her. It was established that the woman was using the businessman’s receipt book. The businessman claimed he had fired the woman a long time ago for allegedly stealing from his business.

When confronted, the woman said her husband who works for the businessman, had given her the receipt book. Police were called and the woman was arrested.
