Man assaults girlfriend with a hammer over noisy washing machine

ALEXANDRA - A man 'hammered his lover into compliance' after she refused to take orders not to switch on the washing machine as it makes an irritating noise.

According to a police statement a man ‘hammered his lover into compliance’ after he told her not to switch on the washing machine as it made an irritating noise.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the 37-year-old woman had woken up early to do her washing. When she switched on the washing machine, her boyfriend who was trying to sleep, asked her not to.

She told him that she wanted to do her washing which included washing the man’s work uniforms. The man grabbed hold of a hammer and hit her on the head.

The woman opened a case of common assault. The boyfriend has since been arrested and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, said Maphakela.
