Never use your phone in the street, says robbery victim

ALEXANDRA - An Alex man has learnt it the hard way never to use his his cellphone while walking in the streets.

An Alex man learnt the hard way that he should never use his cellphone while walking in the streets.

The 26-year-old 2nd Avenue complainant told Alex News he had just knocked off from work, and was walking home in the vicinity of the Pan Africa Mall when his phone rang and he answered it. As he was talking on the phone, two men, one wielding a knife, stopped him and demanded the phone.

The complainant said he handed them the cellphone, a blackberry worth R2 400 and they made off without harming him. “I have learnt my lesson never to answer my phone in the street,” he said. “I would rather walk into a safe place and answer it than walk talking in the street.”

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela confirmed that a case of common robbery had been opened at the Alexandra Police Station, but that no arrests had been made in connection with the case.
