The Methodist Church in 2nd Avenue, Alexandra will undergo renovations to accommodate the new Kgololo Academy.
This will be financed by the Khulula Foundation said the co-founder of the school, Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha during an interview with Alex News. Tolbert-Mbatha said her foundation would spend more than R100 000 on renovations to the classrooms that it will utilise for the coming two years.
“We want to make the classrooms habitable and up to the standards that we have set ourselves for the school. We have a budget of
R150 000 just for those renovations, which should begin in August.
“If all goes according to plan they should be complete in September, as there are no major structural changes, but just minor alterations and modifications here and there,” Tolbert-Mbatha said.
She said they would ensure the classrooms were ready for the opening and the first intake of pupils in January next year. “We still need to give the teachers time to decorate their classrooms to be ready for teaching on the first day of opening,” she said.
Once the renovations have been completed, the Gauteng Department of Education will undertake an inspection of the premises and hopefully give its stamp of approval for the premises in terms of compliance to the law. “This will then give us full registration with the department,” she added.
Registration with the Independent Schools Board will be done in 2016.
