After months of dilly-dallying, the Gauteng Department of Education has finally confirmed the expulsion of the bully boy from Alexandra High School.

He has been allowed to stay at the school until year end, after which he has been asked to find himself a new school. The bully was also ordered by the Gauteng Department of Education to disclose the reasons behind his expulsion at his former school when he applies at whichever school he chooses.

In a letter confirming the decision taken by the disciplinary committee to expel the bully, head of department in the Gauteng Department of Education, Boy Ngobeni said the department has confirmed the expulsion of the bully who beat up a fellow female classmate unconscious on 27 August.

The day of the expulsion shall be effective from the day he writes his final year-end examination paper. He is advised to contact the district director who will facilitate with his placement at another school next year, Ngobeni said in his letter.

Ngobeni further urged the bully to attend the diversion programmes on anger management and behaviour change at an institution recommended and monitored by the district. At the end of the programme, Ngobeni said the district will lodge a formal report to head office.

Ngobeni also advised that the bully, and or his parents, had every right to appeal the expulsion to the MEC [of education] within 14 days from the date of receipt of this notice by delivering a notice of appeal together with the grounds or reasons for the appeal.

The bully punched, kicked and hit Refiloe Ndlovu with a chair after bullying her for over a year since they both arrived at Alexandra High School from their different primary schools. Ndlovu was left badly swollen and unconscious on the school grounds and had to rushed to hospital by an ambulance.

The department has responded to the numerous requests sent by this reporter, asking it to confirm the decision it had taken on the bully following recommendations from the disciplinary committee.
