Call for charities to apply for multimillion rand cheer
JOBURG - Early Childhood Development centres in Alexandra and other areas have been called upon to apply for a slice of the Multimillion Rand Christmas Cheer fund that has been set aside by the National Lotteries Board.
Early childhood development centres in Alexandra and other areas have been called upon to apply for a slice of the Multimillion Rand Christmas Cheer fund that has been set aside by the National Lotteries Board.
Board CEO Charlotte Mampane said charities traditionally received 45 percent of the nearly R2 billion annual funding pool, which represents the largest share of funds available to the board for distribution to qualifying organisations.
Mampane said the funding allocation was targeted towards infrastructure development projects for the centres. “Preference will be given to applications from centres in specific priority areas and organisations that advance rural, underprivileged and poor communities to support development in the 0-5 years age group,” Mampane said.
Established centres can apply for up to a maximum of R3.8 million for project management of new infrastructure over a period of two years. Applications from new or existing beneficiaries are welcomed, she said.
“However, the board will naturally insist that all beneficiaries submit the necessary mandatory documents in order to be considered for funding,” she added. The closing date for submission of applications is 13 February 2015. Late applications will not be considered.
