Festive cheer brought to needy children
ALEXANDRA - Smiles and cheers of joy were brought to children at a care center by good Samaritans.
Smiles and cheers of joy were brought to the children of Banakekeleni Child Care Centre, Marlboro, by good Samaritans and the City of Zion Church.
Homely services and gifts were received by 20 orphaned children including some from other provinces and countries. The centre, whose meagre resources only provide them with the basics, received support from the City of Zion Church and the Mcdonald family, who cheered up the children with gifts. They gave the children Christmas presents, food, school bags, shoes and stationary in readiness for the next school term.
Pastor Kemi Grage said giving to the needy was an expression of love expected from everyone and a blessing to the orphans who struggled to lead normal lives. “It is the responsibility of everyone to give them love especially at this time of sharing when they would otherwise have spent a miserable time,” she said. Grage said the gesture would also be given from the church to any other needy causes, especially for children to help reintegrate them into society.
Rose Martins of the center said the support was timely as they had no resources to make the festive season a memorable one for the children. The centre is a full time home to 20 children who are enrolled at local schools and are stimulated through sporting, drama and music activities by the centre staff.
