School commends ORT support

ALEXANDRA - ORT SA an NPO and its international board members visited Alex as part of a countrywide tour to farmiliarise themselves with development programmes of partner organisations.

ORT SA, a non-profit organisation and its international board members visited Alex to familiarise themselves with its development programmes in the township.

The visit included schools the organisation supports in mathematics and science teaching, and teacher development programmes.

At MC Weiler Primary, teachers commended the organisation’s contribution to improving their teaching skills, management of the classroom and in motivating pupils.

The school is the local hub for the department of education’s inclusive education programme which seeks to improve learning by slow-learning pupils without slowing down the teaching of others. The teachers said ORT’s methods contributed to developing a positive learning culture and helped all children to excel.

The school’s principal Flaki Ramothata said ORT’s support assisted them to model the inclusive education programme for other schools in the area. She said ORT officials also availed themselves weekly through remedial support, imparting other teaching methodologies and making available speech therapists and social workers.

ORT board member Lucien Kalfon praised the school’s development despite overcrowding and limited resources. “I am impressed with their organised teaching, capacity of the teachers, and the visible progress to which I compliment the teachers and school management.”
