Gang in court for series of bread robberies

ALEXANDRA - Five men were remanded into custody by the Alex Magistrates' Court for further investigation in a case of armed robbery.

The court heard that the men, one with a firearm, allegedly robbed a bread delivery truck on the morning of 14 April at a shop on 13th Avenue.

It is alleged the armed man pointed the gun at the driver and demanded money. The driver handed over R300 while, the armed man’s accomplices allegedly approached the driver’s workmates who were offloading bread and stole 64 loaves before running away.

The driver then proceeded to a second delivery on 17th Avenue where the gang reappeared and stole more bread and cash, in all amounting to R700, before running away again.

The driver is said to have been robbed before and suspects the same gang.
