ALEXANDRA – Court compounds Midrand robber's jail time.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court added a 10-year sentence for attempted armed robbery to a man already serving a 15-year sentence for armed robbery.

Thomas Ax (51) an Italian national residing in Natalspruit admitted to the charge. His two sentences will run concurrently. He and two accomplices, who are at large after being granted bail, went to a Midrand warehouse one early morning in February 2018. They overcame a security guard but after he had pressed a panic button and announced a robbery.

Workers arriving for duty were also subdued and their items were taken. Other guards responding to the incident apprehended them at the scene and the items they had taken were recovered and returned to the victims. Investigations found that he was wanted for the other robbery resulting in him receiving the 15-year sentence at another court. His accomplices, Zweli Ngubane and Thembelani Khuphe were granted bail but failed to appear at their hearing resulting in a warrant of arrest issued against them.
