Finance officer on graft charge

ALEXANDRA – Theft from charity organisation ends in court for finance officer.

A former finance officer at a charity organisation has appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for theft.

She is accused of stealing R194 000 from her employer, Child and Family Care Association based in Halfway House, Midrand between November 2015 and January 2016 when she was arrested. She is currently out on bail. The accused is said to have accumulated the ill-gotten gains by paying herself the salary of a former work colleague who had left the employ of the company.

She allegedly changed the banking details of the former employee who had an Absa account to one at FNB which she was able to access. The graft was discovered by auditors. When the former employee denied that she was still receiving a salary, the accused was arrested.
