Minerva Secondary School learners urged to focus on their studies
ALEXANDRA – 'I was once where you are today and I know how bad friendships can impact your lives'.
The deputy principal of Minerva Secondary School Lucy Kganyago has appealed to the learners of her school to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
Kganyago spoke at the alumni motivational tour, organised by the Itec Tiyende Company, The Seed non-profit organisation and a group of former learners at the school.
She said drugs and alcohol were the main reason young people find themselves living on the streets and abandoning their dreams. “We have seen many young people falling into the trap of nyaope and others falling pregnant forcing them to live the school to take care of their children. We urge you not to fall into the same trap. Stay away from those things and focus on your studies for you to have a better future,” Kganyago said.
RnB music artist Jamela ‘J Ross’ Vuma, who is also a member of the Seed non-profit organisation that educate schools around the province about environment, urged learners to surround themselves with positive people and never stop dreaming.
“I was once where you are today and I know how bad friendships can impact your lives. As a person who was once involved in bad stuff like drugs, I don’t want you to find yourselves falling into the same trap. Keep good company and stay away from bad friends,” Vuma said.
The organisation donated and planted five trees at the school as a symbol of encouragement to the learners while Itec IT Company donated a brand-new photocopying and printing machine which the company pledged to service for its entire life span.
