DA ward 105 branch chairperson in the City of Johannesburg dies
ALEXANDRA – In 2011 Mabasa was elected PR councillor in the council and was tasked to execute party duties in ward 75 and ward 76 until 2016.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Johannesburg has suffered a major loss following the death of its Ward 105 branch chairperson and activist Reggie Mabasa.
Mabasa who was 40 years old when he died on 31 October in Edenvale Hospital after a short illness, joined the party in 2008 after he was recruited by the party’s PR councillor in the City of Johannesburg, Shadrack Mkhonto.
In 2011, Mabasa was elected PR councillor in the council and was tasked to execute party duties in wards 75 and 76 until 2016.
Mkhonto described Mabasa as a special super activist. “Reggie was a selfless leader who served the party with all his abilities and dedication,” Mkhonto said. “He worked as a PR councillor for five years and served the community of Alexandra with love. He believed so much in community development and one South Africa for all. His death was not only a loss for his family but the entire country because he had so much to offer to the political dispensation of our country.”
Mabasa was laid to rest on 9 November in his hometown Giyani, Bokisi Village in Limpopo province. He is survived by his mother, wife and his one son.
