From Stage 2, to Stage 4, Eskom implements Stage 6

JOBURG – Eskom earlier implemented Stage 2 but quickly implemented Stage 4.

Eskom has implemented Stage 6 from 6pm today (9 December) due to shortage of capacity.

In a statement, Eskom apologised to the nation, “This follows a technical problem at Medupi Power Station impacting additional generation supply. The heavy rains have caused coal handling and operational problems at several power stations.”

Stage 6 means Eskom requires 6 000MW to be rotationally load-shed, Eskom said there is no need for great concern, “Eskom’s emergency response command centre and technical teams will be working through the night to restore units as soon as possible. Eskom is working closely with large industries to assist with further load curtailment.”

The power utility earlier implemented Stage 2 rotational load-shedding, then upgraded to Stage 4 within a few hours.

City Power tweeted that they did not have Stage 6 load-shedding schedule as it had not been communicated to them by Eskom as yet:

Stage 6 load-shedding schedules are set to available on Eskom’s website.
