A man who is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl was remanded in custody to 29 January by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending DNA test results.
The 38-year-old accused of 18th Avenue, who denied the charge, was a friend to the victim’s father and shared the premises with the family. He was arrested in September last following a report made to the Alexandra Police Station by the father. The discovery was prompted by the school informing the father that the child had missed school for seven days. He, in turn, told the mother who interrogated the child resulting in her disclosing that she had spent the time with the accused.
