Alexandra frontline workers receive surgical masks from AB InBev Foundation

I Love Alex Project in partnership with AB InBev Foundation has donated a total number of 15 000 surgical masks to frontline workers in Alexandra to minimise the risk of infection.

I Love Alex Project initiative is a public-private partnership funded by AB InBev Foundation that works with the local community to reduce the harmful use of alcohol in Alexandra through evidence-based programming.

Speaking during a hand-over ceremony held at Marlboro Licensing Department on 12 August, I Love Alex Project programmes officer Thokozile Budaza said her they decided to donate surgical masks because they care, support and understand the sacrifices made by frontline workers since the outbreak.

“Healthcare workers have been working tirelessly since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic to contain the spread of the virus.

“They face a higher risk of potential Covid-19 infection in their efforts to protect the community. In parallel, law enforcement has stepped in to make sure that communities understand and follow the lifesaving regulations set by government during the lockdown period.

“Today we are handing over 10 000 surgical masks to healthcare workers and 5 000 surgical masks to our law enforcement, the SAPS and JMPD in order for them to continue protecting our communities without being at high risk of getting infected. We will also donate 1 000 food vouchers worth R350 00 for a period of two months to the needy families in Alexandra.”

Director in the office of the JMPD chief, Mathokoza Kgaswane thanked AB InBev Foundation and I love Alex project for their efforts in the fight against Covid-19.

“On behalf of JMPD I would like to thank I Love Alex Project and AB InBev Foundation for their generous support as we face an invisible enemy called Covid-19. This donation will go a long way to ensure that our officers go to the field wearing face masks for protection.”
