Metre audit project in Alex seeks to find a lasting solution on constant power outages in the area
ALEX – In the past few weeks, Alexandrians had to endure cold days and dark nights due to power outages after several sub-stations in the area blew up because of overloading.
The City of Johannesburg’s power utility, City Power has appealed for patience and corporation from residents of Alexandra as the utility embarks on a process of auditing stands and electrical meters in the area.

Utility spokesperson, Isaac Mangena said the audit process sought to count all meters and households circuit breakers, and address the challenge of overloaded distributors.
“The project seeks to address electricity challenges in the township which saw many people inconvenienced by prolonged outages especially during the winter season,” he said
“We appeal for patience and cooperation from the residents during this planned project. We can assure the residents that there will no interruptions of electricity supply during this project.”
He concluded that the contractors could be identified by their reflector vests on which is written ‘Kent Electrician’ and by their purple City Power contractor identity cards.
