Hijacked car found in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – According to Alex police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the detectives then activated blue lights and intercepted the car immediately.

Alex detectives are investigating a case of unlawful possession of firearm and possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle.

According to Alex police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, detectives were performing crime prevention duties when they received information on a black Opel Corsa that was parked on 8th Avenue in Alexandra.

“They proceeded to the said address and they observed the movement of the said car. They saw a male in a red top and dark trousers get inside the said car and drive towards Joe Nhlanhla Street in an easterly direction,” explained Mbatha.

Mbatha added that the detectives followed the car which was following a white Toyota Avanza. The car stopped for a short while on 11th Avenue. “The detectives then activated their blue lights and intercepted the car immediately. The suspect jumped out of the car and ran away, the detectives chased after him and arrested him.” 

While the detectives were searching him, they found him in possession of a black firearm with one magazine. The suspect was booked at SAPS 13 and the black Corsa was towed to Aeroton.
