Suspect found in possession of an unlicensed firearm arrested in Alex

ALEXANDRA – According to Alex police spokesperson Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, the suspect told the police that the firearm belongs to him but he failed to produce a firearm licence.

Alexandra detectives are investigating a case of the unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

On 20 September, a detective was on duty when he stopped a black VW Polo with two male occupants and asked to search them.

“While searching them, he found a firearm wrapped in plastic on the back seat where one of the men was sitting,” said Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha of Alexandra Police Station.

Mbatha added that the suspect told the police the firearm belonged to him but he failed to produce a firearm licence. He was arrested.
