Volunteers clean-up ransacked Boxer store in Alex
ALEXANDRA – Group of volunteers returns every day until the work is done.

Boxer Superstore was one of the many shops vandalised and looted following the violent unrest in Alex and volunteer ministers of Scientology Volunteer Ministers NPO worked tirelessly to clean up and rebuild the store.
It is volunteer ministers’ mission to help communities improve their living conditions, and when the corner store was vandalised on 1st and Chadwick avenues, the ministers did their best to lend a helping hand.

Vandals had stripped the store of all its electricity cables, water pipes, shelves, and all its contents. “Everything was gone, literally everything,” said Njabulo Zuma, the store manager.
She thanked the volunteers who cleaned up the store. “I can not thank them enough, all the volunteers brought together the community of Alex and motivated us to work together.

“Volunteer ministers assisted everyone, from the police to the local stores. We are South Africans, one Rainbow Nation together. Let’s work together and be one family again to rebuild.”
Phineas Ramakgasa, a volunteer minister who lives in Alexandra said, “After seeing the damage done to the store, I knew I had to do something about it. As a volunteer minister, it is my duty to bring relief and succor to my community in times like these.

“I immediately organised an army of volunteers and we descended upon the store. I was very pleased to hear that more volunteer ministers were also doing the same in their communities across Gauteng.”

Alexandra residents also contributed to the cleaning up of the store and other shops such as Pan African Shopping Centre.
