Alex’s Mpho Molutsi puts township on beauty map

ALEXANDRA – I may have lost the fight but I certainly did not lose the battle as I managed to add my bit to put the township on the beauty map, says Mpho Molutsi.

Alex beauty Mpho Molutsi said she may have lost the fight to be crowned the Face of Ponds but she certainly won the battle to put her beloved township on the beauty map of the country.

The only entrant from Alex, Molutsi (20), a Class of 2018 matriculant of Waverly Girls High School said the winners were announced on December 2 and unfortunately she was not one of them.

“As much as I may be disappointed that I did not win the ultimate title of being crowned the Face of Ponds, I am not overly disappointed as I have done my part in putting my beloved township on the beauty map. “I may have lost the fight but I certainly did not lose the battle. The battle was about putting the township on the map which I did with pride. For that, I am quite happy. And there is always a next time and something else to win,” said the petite beauty who is a second-year law student at Unisa.

In her gap year, Molutsi studied film and TV production with Lima Leaders in Motion Academy which is a mobile learning academy that came to Alex to conduct the courses before she enrolled for the law degree. Molutsi said she joined the Face of Ponds campaign in 2019 but due to the outbreak of Covid-19, the event was eventually canned.

When it was re-introduced in 2021, she entered and was among the Top 20. A vivacious beauty with brains, Mpho is the only daughter of Keneilwe Molutsi who is a youth development practitioner at the Gauteng Department of Health who stood by her daughter’s side throughout.
