Alex youth implored not to bite the hand that feeds them

ALEXANDRA -– Such behaviour is no different from a person that self-inflicts pain to one limb of his body, says Mokoena.

Alex Kidz Clinic manager and social worker Elizabeth Mokoena has urged the township youth ‘not to bite the hand that feeds them’.

Mokoena was speaking in an interview with Alex News during a Christmas party for the child victims of abuse seen at the Alex Kidz Clinic over the years that she continues to give support to.

Since the clinic opened its doors more than five years ago, Mokoena said the number of victims continues to rise, and last year [2021] alone she had seen well over 360 children.

“Abuse is not relenting in the township but is growing from year to year. My message to the community is to bring back the culture of Ubuntu which embodies the principle of a child being a community child that we should all honour and protect,” Mokoena said, imploring people to go back to their culture and appreciate and not abuse their children.

She also took a swipe at the township youth who abuse drugs and then hijack non-residents who work closely with various NGOs and come in to provide much-needed relief to the less fortunate.

“We have over the years witnessed numerous incidents of hijackings and robbery of these angels of honour who have come here to help us as a community to take care of our less-fortunate members.

“We cannot bite the hand that feeds us and I call on our youth to stop this inhumane behaviour inflicted on our angels of mercy. Such behaviour is no different from a person that self-inflicts pain to one limb of his body.”
