Alex hospice donation comes in the nick of time
ALEXANDRA – You guys are life-savers for sure as you came in the nick of time to this ‘skorokoro’ which was now battling to move, says Blondie Tloubatla.
If there was a prize for perfect timing, Ashraful Aid humanitarian organisation would have been honoured hands down when they handed over much-needed items to the Alex Hospice and Rehabilitation Centre.
The organisation, in partnership with the Shoprite Group, donated groceries which included food items, toiletries, sanitary wares and other essentials to the hospice worth R10 000 on January 24.

“If you know what is called ‘perfect timing’, this is what happened to us today. Ashraful Aid and their partners, the Shoprite Group, came to us just in the nick of time.

“We were already pulling with the heavy gear and this ‘skorokoro’ [old car] was already battling to cope and we did not know where and who to turn to. You guys are lifesavers for sure,” said the hospice’s financial administrator Blondie Tloubatla in an interview with Alex News soon after the handover.
Describing Ashraful Aid as friends of the hospice, Tloubatla said this was not the first time the organisation has come to the institution with goodie bags. “They have been here countless times and we value their support. They have even gone the extra mile to say to us whenever we are in need, we should not hesitate to call on them.”

Tloubatla appealed to other institutions and corporates to come to the party in support of charity organisations that help those who can’t help themselves.
Ashraful Aid’s head of welfare and operations division Riaz Moosa expressed his gratitude to their partners, the Shoprite Group, without whom, he said they would not have managed to pull off this donation.

He said the donation was initiated from the group’s Act for Change Fund which enables customers to contribute for the poor by donating R5 or more at till points in any Shoprite, Checkers or Usave stores nationally.
Ashraful Aid executive director Moulana Suhail Wadee welcomed the Shoprite Group’s initiative, which he said has a long way to assist the hospice to make a difference to its terminally ill patients.
