Raphadu keeps his promise to mother of bedridden infant

ALEXANDRA – Ward 105 councillor Raphadu says the donation of the generator to the mother and child is part of service delivery.

Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu has kept the promise he made to the mother of a bedridden infant that was born with multiple birth defects.

Raphadu said he was alerted during his door-to-door campaign activities in the lead-up to the Local Government Elections last year and then met the mother, Jessica Lekalakala and also saw the child, Gomolemo.

“I promised the mother that I was going to come back to her – a promise that I have kept as I have brought the generator donor, Limuwani Lithole of Lidwala Consulting Engineers with me.

“I met Lithole when his company was working on the upgrades to water pipes in my ward and we spoke about the desperation of the child’s mother for a generator that can sustain the child’s ventilator even during power cuts.”

The councillor said he and Lithole then went to see both the mother and the infant. “I was quite touched by the plight of the child and our company never hesitated to come to the aid of the mother and her son when councillor Raphadu requested our assistance in the matter,” Lithole told Alex News.

Raphadu said Jessica is a forthright person who never minced her words when ‘I met her for the first time’. “She told me that we often come here seeking their votes but whenever they need help we are nowhere to be seen. I told her, mark my words, I will be back – and here I am.”

Handing the generator to Lekalakala [mother], Raphadu pointed out that service delivery was not just about ensuring there is water, potholes are filled and waste is collected. “The donation of the generator is part of service delivery, especially of items that communities desperately need.”
