Mooi exits Rays of Hope

ALEXANDRA – Shuttleworth says he is saddened as all people are in this space of community, we look forward to seeing him flourish in his new role.

Colleagues that have worked with former Rays of Hope CEO Sihle Mooi have described his departure from the organisation as a ‘huge loss for the basket case community’.

His departure from the helm of the organisation, which was announced by the chairperson John Shuttleworth on February 11, caught many by surprise and left them shocked and bewildered, saying his departure will be a huge loss for Alexandra and its community.

“On behalf of Rays of Hope, I wish to announce that Sihle Mooi, the CEO of Rays of Hope, is leaving us to pursue a new and exciting opportunity with Jam International.

“While we are saddened by his departure, we look forward to seeing him flourish in his new role as South Africa country director. He will be starting a new role at Jam as of March 1,” Shuttleworth said.

He thanked Mooi for his ‘tremendous contribution to Rays of Hope, the community of Alexandra and wish him well in this new season in his life’.

Alex creative Refilwe Pieterse said Alexandra is the poorer from the departure of Mooi. “You touched so many lives and inspired so many organisations and individuals with your passion for community work.

“I should be crying because I don’t think there is anyone we will meet with the same work ethic, commitment to cause and your forever smile.”
Alex historian Thabo Mopasi also praised Mooi, saying he had traversed the township during one of its darkest and most difficult times but ‘we have all seen the beautiful work from your reign, not just for this community, but also for the community of the African diaspora and more especially during the hard lockdowns of Covid-19’.

Pastor Angel Riyandane said Mooi had inscribed an everlasting mark of community service in the township that no men will ever delete. “It’s sad that we’re losing an icon with unmatched passion and zeal to serve people.”
