Londani Lushaka in Alex issues wish list
ALEXANDRA – Londani was formed at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 with only 17 children but the number has since swelled to 900.
Londani Lushaka feeding scheme of 12th Avenue behind the Thusong Youth Centre has issued a wish list for items that it would like to be assisted with.
Londani project manager Alice Modiri issued the wish list during a visit of the Alex Water Sanitation and Environmental Community Forum members who facilitated the donation of a Covid-19 sanitation tank.
The visit also included a representative of the Department of Water and Sanitation, assistant director for water sector support Shoki Malepe, the donor of the water tank in partnership with beer brand Heineken.

Malepe and forum had come to deliver soaps and sanitary towels from Heineken, which praised Londani for looking after the tank and wanted to show its appreciation by dropping more Covid-19 compliance soaps and sanitary towels for human traffic to its feeding scheme.
Addressing her visitors, Modiri outlined the history of the organisation which was formed at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 with only 17 children but the number has since swelled to 900, including 600 out-of-work adults that have come to seek help.

Londani Lushaka, which is Venda for ‘caring for the nation’, not only runs a feeding scheme but has gender-based violence on its plate as part of the Masiphephe Network of Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training (Adapt) and counselling services for children and other community members.
Modiri, who is also the chairperson of Emfundisweni Primary School SGB for the past two years, appealed for support with computers for their office, a photocopying machine, levelling of the grounds of the feeding scheme for children to play and not get injured and banners, gazebos and T-shirts for its volunteers.

“We also need tools to tend our vegetable garden, including manure to enrich the soil and ensure we produce enough veggies to support the feeding scheme,” she said.
