A Taxify driver was hijacked on April 8 by the passengers he picked up at Eastbank in Alexandra.
According to the Alexandra Police Station Commander Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela, the hijacking occurred at around 10:00 at Sparrow Street, Eastbank.
Magudulela said the driver claimed that a woman, seated in the backseat, strangled him from behind, while two males threatened him with a firearm, after which they ejected him from the car and drove off.
A similar incident happened on the same day at 23:30 at the entrance to the Alex Mall.
“The complainant was driving from The Establishment liquor outlet when he was stopped by a woman who pretended to be stranded and while listening to her, two men pointed a firearm at him.
“The pair put him in the boot and drove off. Then the car was involved in an accident on the N3 between London Road and Marlboro Drive. They then abandoned the car and fled on foot together with the woman.”
Magudulela said no arrests have been made in the two incidents and police investigations are in progress.
