Alex creatives urged to power up their talent

Talented youngsters playing in the Alex creative digital space must emulate Tumelo Selamolela, says Williams.

Alex creatives that play their trade in the digital space have been urged to take advantage of the Tshimologong Precinct’s Digital Content Hub which seeks to power up and churn out talented digital entrepreneurs in this industry.

The call was made by Tshimologong Precinct CEO, Lesley Donna Williams at the recent signing ceremony of the phase two of their partnership agreement with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) worth more than
R7.2 million in support of the creative and cultural industries.

Williams said Alex creatives must follow in the footsteps of successful Alex-born animator Tumelo Selamolela, who was a panellist at the recent annual Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival which will launch its ninth edition this year at the precinct.

“I urge the many talented youngsters playing in the Alex creative digital space to emulate Tumelo Selamolela and come over to Braamfontein to advance their creative skills at the hub and maybe ultimately open up their own enterprises in the digital space,” she told Alex News.

She said the centre can be used as an incubation hub to nurture and grow talent in the digital creative space which aims to create world-leading African digital entrepreneurs through developing a digital skills pipeline and the many incubating digital entrepreneurs.

The phase two comes hot on the heels of the 2018 partnership in which Tshimologong [Setswana for new beginnings] and AFD and IFAS launched the Digital Content Hub, as an incubator for innovative and creative audio visual content.

Ambassador of France to South Africa, Aurélien Lechevallier, says, “This extended partnership testifies to the deep involvement of France in the creative industries, as powerful tools to create work and to stimulate economic growth. It also testifies to the strong support of France to innovation, creativity and talents.”
